Who can take the course?
Level 1 Introductory RPM Practitioner Course (Aug 6,7,8,9 2024)
Parents and professionals who want to use RPM to help their children and students.
An application form needs to be submitted along with a 5-minute video clip of an RPM session showing you working with your child/student (video submission is not required for Zoom training course). The course is four days of theoretical training with video demonstrations of key points. A training workbook will be provided by HALO.

Upon Level 1 certification, participants may:

Be listed on the official RPM Practitioner List with Soma's final approval
Course content
1. Principles of RPM
2. How to identify the open learning channels
3. Mental mapping
4. Methodologies to teach academics: empirical method, rational methods
5. The 3 basic skills to develop: classification skill, combinatorial skill and conservation skill
6. 4 objectives of an RPM session: cognitive, skill, tolerance and communication
7. Lesson planning
8. Selecting the student participation method and individualizing it based on the student’s motor, sensory and emotional readiness
9. Sensory activities: what are they, how and when to incorporate in lessons.
10. Types of prompts and when to use
11. Pre-communication stages and how to work towards open communication
12. How to identify the types of kinesthetic (motor) actions: impulse, OCD, stimulatory actions and redirecting them towards purposeful motor actions
13. Principles of redirecting unwanted actions: delay, dilute, scramble
14. Types of verbal students and how to adapt RPM sessions for them
15. Extending RPM to the environment (for home care uses outside an academic session): body awareness and self help skills, self dictation skills, sensory learning for better participation in the environment
16. How to develop kinesthetic skills of handwriting and drawing
Post-course requisite
You are required to submit a written lesson plan with a video of the lesson being delivered and to complete an oral assessment over Zoom with Soma based on the course. If Soma is satisfied that you show understanding of the course content, she will issue a certificate of completion. Then you may be listed as a provider.
The certificate of completion confirms satisfactory completion of the Level 1 Introductory Practitioner course and is valid for 2 years.
To keep in good standing with the method and continue to hold your Level 1 certificate, you will need to recertify every two years by submitting a video and corresponding lesson plan and completing an assessment over zoom with Soma.
Cancellations
Cancellations may not be refunded. However attendance may be transferable if all parties are in agreement.
Level 2 RPM Practitioner Training
About
This training is for anyone who has completed the Level 1 RPM Practitioner Introductory Course and is wanting to grow their RPM skills, progress in the four areas of RPM, and expand their practice to work with more students. In the course, trainees will further the skills learned in Level 1. A big focus of the course is learning how to adapt lessons and sessions in the moment to different student’s needs.
This course is taught by Level 4 RPM providers. Contact them for more information on course availability and fees.

Present to groups of 25 or less in an informal setting (not conferences) sharing your own experiences.
Post-course requisite with Soma
Following successful completion of the course you are required to submit a written lesson plan with a video of the lesson being delivered and to complete an assessment through Zoom with Soma based on the course. If Soma is satisfied that you show understanding of the course content, she will issue a certificate of completion. Then you may be listed as a provider.
The certificate of completion confirms satisfactory completion of the Level 2 Introductory Practitioner course and is valid for 2 years.

Level 3 RPM Practitioner Training
About
This training is for anyone who has completed the Level 2 RPM Practitioner training and is wanting to grow their RPM skills to a larger group of students. In this course, trainees will learn to use a range of strategies to support various types of students, work on being very reflective in sessions, learn how to work through more challenging sessions - including but not limited to more verbal students, higher OCDs, students with more motor challenges, and other more challenging situations that might occur, and gain skills to help parents learn with their child.

About
Level 4 training involves interning at HALO and is by personal invitation from Soma.

Travel to work 1:1 with students in different areas (no live stream of sessions)

Present to groups of any size (conferences included)
